Show Notes

In this special episode of the Underrepresented in Tech Podcast, Michelle and Samah introduce an exciting global initiative for International Women’s Day 2026. Instead of looking back at history, this year is all about celebrating women in tech right now.

On March 8, 2026, Underrepresented in Tech will host a live, six-hour global event, featuring interviews with women in technology from around the world. Streaming live on YouTube, the event will spotlight diverse voices, personal journeys, challenges, successes, and leadership stories across time zones and regions.

Women at all stages of their careers, from those just starting out to seasoned leaders, are invited to join, share their stories, and be part of a global conversation about equity, representation, innovation, and community in tech. Registration is open for attendees and for those interested in being interviewed. This event is about visibility, connection, and celebrating women exactly as they are, where they are.

[00:00:00] Speaker A: Welcome to the Underrepresented in Tech podcast, where we talk about issues in underrepresentation and have difficult conversations. Underrepresented in Tech is a free database with a goal of helping people find new opportunities in WordPress and tech. Hello, Samah. [00:00:18] Speaker B: Hello, Michelle. [00:00:21] Speaker A: It's always good to see you. And I'm excited about. I'm excited about today's topic too. [00:00:26] Speaker B: Me too. Always great to see you. And I'm also very excited about the topic today, which you did 99.999% and all of the work for it. So that's okay. [00:00:38] Speaker A: You do so much of the other work. I think it's. It helps it feel a little more even that way. So last year, when we had International Women's Day and Women's History Month, we talked about a lot of women who have made incredible strides in technology throughout history. And I thought that was really great. That was a great episode. We can tag it in the show notes here if you'd like. But I want to do something a little bit different this year. I want to celebrate current women in technology by having kind of a telethon or something, whatever you want to call it, and having, you know, what do we come up with? 6 hours. I think we're doing live interviews of women in technology. And so I think, you know, we. I want to make sure that we get women from all over the world. I don't want it to be really, you know, us-centric and things like that. So we're actually starting at 6 am my time, which is noon your time, so that hopefully we can get people on either end of the time zones to be able to participate. And we'll do two women every hour. We've said about 25 minutes, so people can register on our website. And that website name is underrepresentedintech.com IWD26 International Women's Day 26. IWD 26. I'm excited. [00:02:07] Speaker B: I am more than excited about it. And I know it's. It's gonna be amazing. Ever considered a global. A global. It's a global day, like International Women's Day. It's a global day to celebrate each other. And yes, we want to celebrate all of the women now, all from all around the world. And for me, I'm really happy and excited about it. Sorry, I want to say because, like, it's the end of the day for me. [00:02:36] Speaker A: Yes. [00:02:37] Speaker B: I'm not saying I need more coffee, but. [00:02:39] Speaker A: Yeah, your brain isn't braining. That's what you said earlier. [00:02:43] Speaker B: My brain is not braining. And I think a lot of women should join this amazing day because, like, I know it's gonna offer a lot of rare and powerful opportunities to be seen, to be heard, to be valued in the industry. And also, it's online, everyone can join, and hopefully, we can see people from all around the world, Asia, Africa, South America. And the best thing is gonna be with you, and people can sign up. So please, ladies, if you see this, just sign up and let's have a chat. Let's celebrate you. [00:03:21] Speaker A: So when you go to underrepresented in tech.com IWD26 excuse me. You'll see all about what we're going to be doing that day. It starts at 11 am UTC. So I wanted to make it, you know, the universal time clock, so people could understand exactly what it is. I even put a link to a time converter because I am terrible with time zones. So you can double-check it when it starts in your own time zone. We're going to be interviewing. I put 15 women on there, I think it's 12 women actually. But I have to double-check that again in tech from all over the world. And we will have it be, it'll be streaming live on our YouTube, and so you will be able to interact through the comments there. However, instead of just saying go to our YouTube channel, we did make a registration link to an Eventbrite. That way, you'll get reminders, and you can add it to your calendar really quickly so that you won't miss it. That's what I really wanted to make sure that we did that. [00:04:12] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:04:13] Speaker A: And then below that, we have an opportunity for people to sign up to be interviewed. So we're asking you know, your name, email, your title, what you, what you do in technology so that we have an understanding and we have deal what kinds of questions to ask you and what country you're going to be joining us from so that we make sure that we're getting, you know, representation from all over the world. And then there are some things that we're making you agree to and I want to mention those too, that you agree that you're going to be on the live stream and that underrepresented in tech can use the video on our YouTube and, and in our newsletters and social media that you'll be in the green room or logged in five minutes before the time you're scheduled. So we can stay, we can stay on time, that you will use headphones or earpods for the best sound quality, which is why you always see us with the big things. These are called cans in the industry, by the way. Get your cans on that you will have reliable WI fi or Ethernet so that we can make sure that you're not. We're not going to lose you any time during that time, and the intention is to share your story, not use it as an opportunity to make sales, and the interview is 25 minutes long. So if all of those sound good to you, we want to invite you to be part of International Women's Day with us. We're not offering anything other than the opportunity to spend some minutes with us. We'll probably send you a thank you or something like that. But it's just a way for your voices to be heard and your faces to be seen and for us to learn more about who you are. [00:05:42] Speaker B: Yes. And I will add to it also. You can share your experience, challenges and successes, and support. And your stories will. Or your experiences, challenges, and how you overcome them will support a lot of people. Also, we would love to celebrate who you are and, of course, talk more about equity, leadership, and innovation in tech. And I'm certainly really excited about it. Yeah, me too. [00:06:09] Speaker A: I want to hear about people's journeys. [00:06:12] Speaker B: Yeah. And can I ask you, are we going to take a break during that day? No, I'm joking. [00:06:18] Speaker A: Five minutes between every interview. Go to the bathroom before we get started. [00:06:23] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:23] Speaker A: No. But either one of us can pop out to use the restroom and get coffee, and the other one will continue the conversation, so we can tag team in and out that day. [00:06:33] Speaker B: No, I'm not really about it. Yeah. So, like, so if you are a seasoned leader or just starting your journey, and you want to share your life, your journey, information, who you are, what you're doing, this is your time. Please sign up for this amazing event. Yeah, yeah. [00:06:52] Speaker A: We're especially interested in your. Your successes, but we're also interested in hearing about some of the, you know, the road bumps that you hit along the way, and whenever you encountered issues because you're a woman in technology. And I think every one of us has at least one story about that. [00:07:08] Speaker B: Right. [00:07:09] Speaker A: And where we felt that we weren't necessarily being treated the same way as the rest of the people in tech. So. Yeah, so I'm just excited about it. I want to make sure that people know about it. They'll hear about it through this podcast. We're going to keep putting it out on our social media so that you'll be able to sign up to attend. But also, if you're interested in being one of our interviewees, we would love to have you there too. [00:07:33] Speaker B: Awesome. Great. [00:07:36] Speaker A: I got nothing else. [00:07:37] Speaker B: This is a short one. Yeah, it's very short. We're so happy, we're so excited. And, also, we will talk more briefly about it in the next episode, but we want to share this with everyone. I know it's going to be a short podcast, but it's, it's so people, we can give them time so they can go sign up. You know this. [00:08:00] Speaker A: I love the way you think. Sama. Perfect. Perfect. If you're not in our database already, you can always join the [email protected], and if you're looking for people to include in your podcast, in your business, in your blogging, or in your events that are more diverse and underrepresented, you can search the database there for free as well. So that's why we created Underrepresented in Tech, and that's why we want you to be able to take advantage of it. So yeah, so we're here for it. And so, ladies, women in general. Women. Women identifying, we would love to have you on the show that day. So give us a sign-up up and we'll be in touch. If we have too many people, of course, we won't be able to accept everybody. We do want to make sure that we have representation around the world. So we are going to make sure that we fill that time zone, those time zones as best we can. And so please, it's nothing against you if you're not selected. It's just, just that you live in a place that's already overrepresented for our day. [00:09:01] Speaker B: Yeah. And we're gonna announce, when we come closer to the event, we'll start announcing our guests online. And also, if we have a lot of applications, they can also be our future guests in the podcast and our regular podcast, let's say that way. [00:09:19] Speaker A: We should probably tell people what it is. [00:09:24] Speaker B: Yes, it's our podcast. What is it called? Michelle and Summer. No, I'm joking. [00:09:29] Speaker A: It's on. It'll be on Sunday, March 8, 2026, and it will begin, as I said, at 11:00 am UTC. So I should probably put that on the website. I forgot to put the date. So I'll add that in there. By the time you're all looking at it, you're gonna see the date on there. And just like I'm just laughing at the fact that I looked at the site and the date wasn't there, so. [00:09:50] Speaker B: No, but because. Because you know, when it's international, and I know and lots of people, but some like, forget it. When is it? It's the 8th of March. Like, the New Year. Not for everyone. You and I. Like the 8th of March, like that. It's International Women's Day. [00:10:04] Speaker A: So hopefully you'll have some time to join us on that Sunday. We want to celebrate you. I'm looking forward to it very much. Thank you, Sama, for agreeing with my idea and being so excited and enthusiastic about it. [00:10:18] Speaker B: You have always had great ideas, and I'm really happy to be part of it, and I'm really excited about it, and I cannot wait to meet all the amazing people from around the world and talk with them and share and learn from their experiences. [00:10:33] Speaker A: Me too. Awesome. All right, so we'll see you all next week, where our topic is still undetermined, but we'll come up with something really good for you because that's what we do. Thank you, Samah. [00:10:46] Speaker B: Thank you, Michelle. Bye, everyone. [00:10:49] Speaker A: If you're interested in using our database, joining us as a guest for an episode, or just want to say Hi, go to underrepresentedintech.com. See you next week.
